Sneak-Peek: Jikia

Description

A sort of preview/sneak-peek of something I'm working on... this would be a new species of critter that I'm currently designing. Note that as of right now, this is NOT an open species, and likely may not become one.

This is a creature called a Jikia* (jih-KEE-uh)(Xenos Flabellum), a small lizard like alien species from a distant planet. While not very big (Without the tail, they're only the length of your hand), and apparently somewhat 'cute', these things are their fair share of impressive. Their tiny needle-like claws make them nimble climbers, and are sharp and sturdy enough to pierce just-enough to provide a grip in most commercial materials (such as brick, drywall, and even glazed ceramic tiles). Jikia can glide short distances, thanks to two frills kept in stiff 'sheaths' on their back. Jikia also have very sharp teeth that are designed specifically to puncture; for bigger objects that can’t be chomped, a Jikia will use their upper teeth like a push pin, laying them on the surface and applying force downward. They have been known to poke holes in metal, even leaving impressions in steel. Along ith that, they're virtually toxin proof, even to the point where they are unaffected by rat poisons and fumigation gasses.
Why is this bad? Well, Jikia are considered a pest in that they are territorial; if something 'invades' their home, they stop at nothing to drive them out. These things are eerily intelligent, and very crafty, and since they don't boast much of a physical prowess, they rely on cleverness and tampering to get what they want. Their favorite tactic is to make the environment inhabitable to invaders, forcing them to find another place to stay. Jikia have been known to ruin supplies, knock over objects, shred wires, bite through plastic tubing, even puncture gas pipes. (A group of researchers once reported about a small flock of Jikia figuring out that water and electronics don’t mix, and proceeding to spit mouthfuls of water on their equipment).
Sound bad so far? Guess what? They're also invasive. Yep, even if you were living there first, if a Jikia decides the location's a good place to stay, it'll try to drive you out, too.
*Note that the word 'Jikia' is both singular AND plural, much like the word 'sheep'. 'Jikias' are not the proper term, although 'Jikia's' is the correct posessive noun.

These are all VERY rough sketches, so expect better ones in the future...
